Condition The Complex restoration has been carried out with careful respect for the original features and its history by following a strict bio-architectural principles: all dwelling spaces are fully protected from the electromagnetic waves, wall painting has been done by using a milk of lime and natural earth, hand made cotto floors are wax-treated and sweet chestnut beamed ceilings are protected by natural oils. The restoration has given back to the convent an equilibrium state between man and nature. Bio-constuction has few but fundamental principles. Among the most important are rediscovery of non-harmful materials and traditional building techniques, use of colour and natural illumination. The first restoration step was a study of old wall, roof, floor, balcony building techniques and old building materials used like stone, kind of wood and mortar. The next step was a reinstatement and restoration to their original state. Luckily, many of original materials have been recycled and used for restoration. Stones and bricks for wall restoration, hand-made tiles and supports for roof refitting and ancient wooden beams for recreating door and window architraves. Rarely was possible to save intact entire lofts and old roofs. The chestnut rafters, doors and frames have been treated with natural oils and waxes and keep their orinigal form. The same traditional methods were used for roof restoration by using natural sheathing and cork. Bio-architecture limits but targets a choice of building techniques. New materials and techniques have been adopted for a fully new reconstruction or additional works. Bio-architecture limits a choice to natural and non-harmfull hand-made material. Bricks are all hand-made, natural materials like clay, cork panels and natural fibres guarantee an efficient and bio-ecological thermal and soundproof insulation. Mortar and limestone plastering recalls the traditional method. Either external or internal plaster finishings have been painted with lime milk and natural pigments in order to let them blend with the original limestone of the buildings. All old fireplaces were put into use. The ambients lacking in heating were supplied with radiators. Nevertheless, humidity is regulated by use of hygroscopic materials of furnishings: sofas, beds and other furniture items are made of solid wood and treated with natural oils and beewax; mattresses and pillows are in latex, coconut and cotton; linen is of untreated cotton material while quilts are goose feather. Careful planning of the electrical installation and screening of the wire system, extention boxes and outlets guarantee a electro-magnetic protection. A similar conduit for electric wiring has been laid down all around the convent. Outdoor space 7 hectares of surrounding land make this property a private haven with swimming-pool.
