WELCOME to
– Dream Italian Weddings! –
Getting married is obviously a huge event whether you decide it’s going to be simply just the two of you or an enormous celebration with bands playing, relatives shipped in from all parts of the world and an enormous firework display you’ll remember for years to come.
There is a growing trend for more couples to get married in Italy and it’s easy to see why when the perfect day involves the perfect backdrop. What could be more spectacular than having your friends and family come over for a big party in beautiful surroundings? It’s a chance for everyone to have a holiday and celebrate Italian-style which can only be a good thing. Organising a wedding in a foreign country can seem daunting particularly for busy people, realistically it’s hard enough to organise an event on your own doorstep, but with every issue we’ll bring you features by experts who will guide you through getting married in Italy and make life just that little bit easier.
We’ve got fantastic wedding features this issue including a look at the latest beautiful bridal dresses, how to create the ultimate wedding list with stunning Italian gifts, some tips on how to choose the perfect photographer whether you prefer the traditional posed shots or something more photojournalistic, how to look beautiful with makeup advice for those getting married abroad and we take a peek at some wonderful hotels that are not only ultimate honeymoon destinations but also worth investigating if you feel like a very romantic weekend away.
There are so many memorable moments during a wedding in Italy, both planned and unplanned, which is undoubtedly what makes getting married there so special. I’ve had many letters from readers saying how they felt like royalty when the locals came out of their houses and shops to cheer them along the streets and how they found it hard to go home after such an incredible experience. Many of them have become great friends with their wedding planners, taking the opportunity to go back to Italy and visit them long after they have tied the knot.
I have fantastic memories from my friends’ wedding in Tuscany, a few years ago, that are as vivid today as back then: a little local dog trotting up the aisle just before the bride to see what all the fuss was about; the bride and groom being driven away at breakneck speed in the back of their neighbour’s ape; the absolutely gargantuan cake being brought in by three perspiring waiters and the moment us red-faced Brits belted out ‘for he’s a jolly good fellow’ in response to the table of Italians who had just sung a sweet tearjerker of a wedding canzone in honour of the happy couple. There were a few other memories that we still can’t get our heads around, including finding
myself leading the conga later that evening, but that’s for another time.
So whether you’re getting married in Italy, you know someone who’s thinking about it or you just feel like having a look at some very happy people I hope you enjoy our first issue and we’ll be back with some more Dream Italian Weddings in May.
Buon divertimento
