– Dream Italian Weddings! –
BEING a wedding planner in Italy must be one of the most satisfying jobs in the world. Who wouldn’t want to be responsible for making someone’s dream come true in one of the most beautiful places on earth? However, speaking to several wedding planners over the last few weeks I was brought back to reality when hearing about the attention to detail that goes into organising someone else’s wedding abroad. I mean, there are so many opportunities for things to go wrong that guests probably don’t even think about as they arrive at the lovely Italian wedding reception. Imagine if you had somehow forgotten to order the flowers, or the wedding dress hadn’t arrived on time or you had a groom tied to a tree somewhere as part of the stag antics (that’s all happened to people I know) what would you do? I suddenly realised why it is that brides and grooms can become so attached to their treasured wedding planners who smooth everything over in a calm and professional manner and become even more vital when the couple is getting married abroad and possibly don’t speak the language!
Talking to several brides that had got married in Italy I found that their most treasured memory, apart from walking down the aisle as a newly married woman, was the kind of transport they had on the big day. This got us thinking about all of the ways you could arrive at your wedding and we realised the possibilities are endless. As you’ll see on our feature on page 24, there are little tiny Ape, motorbikes, boats and glamorous helicopters. There is also the thrill of getting to the ceremony and reception by walking through beautiful cobbled streets being clapped by the locals and let’s not forget the thrill of sipping champagne whilst sitting in the plush leather seats of a classic car. Who wouldn’t feel like a star for the day being driven along the stunning countryside or coastal roads in a vintage Bentley, Lancia or Alfa Romeo? I am sure that the smile would stay on the happy couple’s faces for quite a while after that journey.
Talking of smiling, we loved the story of Jess and David’s dream Italian wedding on page 14. We were swept away with the romance of it all as we discovered all the little details that went into making the day magical for the bride, groom and their guests. Jess and David decided to have their wedding in gorgeous Ravello because between them they had been to over 100 weddings and wanted to do something different, personal and very memorable. I think you’ll agree that they managed that perfectly! With all the letters that we’re receiving from brides-to-be asking for wedding advice we’ve decided to run a regular feature (the first of which you’ll find on page 46) with expert tips from professionals who organise weddings and honeymoons in Italy. If you have a question or would simply like to tell us about your fabulous wedding and honeymoon experiences then please write to editor@italymag.co.uk. We’d love to hear all about it!
Buon divertimento
