A heavenly castle wedding

Kate and Morgan enjoy the luxury of a medieval castle near Turin

WORDS: JANE MCNEILL

Looking for a spectacular venue overlooking the lake, Kate and Morgan eventually decided to have their wedding in a breathtaking medieval castle near Turin. Every detail was arranged by Monica Roma, a talented wedding planner from Leoeventi. She says of the experience: ‘I took Kate to see the lake and then at last to visit the beautiful castle. She fell in love with the place immediately as it is just full of genuine history. The castle is over a thousand years old and only 40 minutes from Turin so convenient for the arrival of guests.’

The castle is an original 1000-year-old building and in Italy it is one of the few original medieval building which can be used for private events. The owner of the castle, who inherited it from her husband, has painstakingly restored it to its original splendour. Some of the furniture has remained in the castle for hundreds of years. The gardens have also been tended with care and make an ideal location for an open-air wedding ceremony. All the legal procedures can, in fact, be carried out on site.

Guests are privileged to visit several of the rooms in the castle and the bride and groom may find them the perfect spot for photographs.

ALL DAY AT THE CASTLE

Kate and Morgan’s wedding began in the nearby church on a warm June day, the ceremony enlivened with the joyful singing of a gospel choir. After the service, the guests, more than 100 of them from England and Ireland, made their way on foot to the grand castle.

There was a splendid welcoming reception waiting for them, with delicious seasonal food and drink.

The wine, local cheeses and cold cuts all came from the Piedmont region and were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Music was provided by a jazz band, adding to the romance and intimacy of the occasion. The view across to the Alps from the castle was spectacular and guests were treated to a fabulous sunset before sitting down to the sumptuous wedding dinner. The rooms of the castle are packed with antiques, providing an impressive setting. Gorgeous flowers and flickering candles created a wonderfully warm atmosphere. The tables were decorated with pale pink and ivory roses echoing the bride’s bouquet.

CEREMONY OF THE CAKE

The entrance of the wedding cake came as a complete surprise: a multi-tiered cake was placed on the table covered in showers of tiny white lights. ‘This was really the most romantic moment of my life,’ says Kate, thinking back to her special day. A wellstocked bar made sure that the party carried on at full swing until late into the night, when coaches finally arrived to take the guests back to their hotels a few minutes away.

The success of the occasion owed a lot to the friendliness and professionalism of Leoeventi’s staff. Everything was planned perfectly with attention to detail, including the decorations, a very high standard of catering that included delicious Italian dishes and a vast range of wines. They also hired the professional jazz band with an international repertoire as well as a talented photographer who specialised in recording the event with reportage-style images.

Leoeventi specialises in tailor-made weddings, guiding the couple from the selection of the venue and taking care of the paperwork and hotels for their guests, to the coordination work on the actual wedding day. Nothing is left to chance and on the day prior to the wedding Leoeventi can even arrange something very special for the rehearsal dinner, as they did for Kate and Morgan, who had a delicious buffet by the pool in the luxury villa hotel where all their guests were staying.
