We take a look at a fabulous find in Maratea, perfect for an unforgettable wedding or a honeymoon hideaway for newlyweds

We take a look at a very special place, perfect for a memorable wedding ceremony, luxurious guest accommodation or a honeymoon hideaway for the newlyweds

ORIGINALLY OCCUPIED by Visitandine nuns, set in the heart of Maratea’s historical centre and framed by the roofs of the old medieval village, La Locanda delle Donne Monache is the ideal accommodation for guests who wish to explore the character and local treasures of the Lucania region.
Named ‘the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian sea’, and dominated from above by the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer, Maratea, with its 32 kilometres of coast, several caves and white sandy beaches, charms and fascinates every visitor who chooses it as a holiday destination to discover the flavours and the ancient traditions of the Basilicata region. Thanks to its strategic position between the mountains and the sea, Maratea offers many enchanting corners and excursion paths to be discovered whilst enjoying the area’s uncontaminated nature.
There are innumerable things for guests to do in the area, such as trekking, walks and boat tours for the adventurous, or for those just looking to soak up the atmosphere, then the picturesque porto has many typical bars and restaurants. The famous Caves of Matera are a couple of hours away by car, and the National Park of Pollino is close and definitely worth a visit as you can also take up some rafting or canyoning along the River Lao. For those sporty types who enjoy skiing, the Monte Sirino tourist centre is only half an hour away, offering the resorts of Lago di Laudemio and Conserva di Lauria around the southern glacial lake, where it is possible to try Nordic and alpine skiing. There are also centres nearby offering horse riding, paragliding, and diving along the stunning marine landscapes of the coastal zone of Cersuta, and you can rent launches with or without guides for some fabulous sea excursions departing from the Port of Maratea.

at the guests disposal is a large outdoor pool with solarium…
