"Pink Hitler" poster causes offence

Advertising posters depicting Hitler in a pink uniform and wearing an armband with a red heart instead of a swastika have caused anger and outrage in Palermo.

The posters, advertising a young people’s clothing store called New Form, have the slogan “Cambia Style [Change Style] Don’t Follow Your Leader”. Democratic Party Councillor Rosario Filoramo has asked the Mayor of Palermo to have the posters removed, saying that they are offensive to Italy’s constitutional principles and to citizens’ sensibilities.

However, the advertising company responsible for the posters, Zerocento, has defended the campaign, claiming that the posters ridicule Hitler and encourage young people to make their own choices. Its next advertising campaign for the store will feature Mao Tse Tung.

Do you think the posters should be removed?
